Mini Implants. Major Difference!

Do you have loose or ill-fitting dentures that make it difficult to eat?
If so, Mini Dental Implants, or MDI's, may be the answer.
MDI's are small diameter implants that can be placed to help stabilize your denture. MDI's are more affordable than conventional implants, most of the treatment involved with them can be completed in a single appointment and you may even be able to have your current denture modified to work with your Mini Implants.  Call us today to see if Mini Dental Implants are right for you!  757-941-7079

The Truth about Thanksgiving

When we think about Thanksgiving, we think of turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and of course the pies!  But did you know...

Fact:  Thanksgiving is actually a holiday that promotes great dental health!

The Two C's Celery and Carrots:
Both are fiber-rich vegetables that stimulate your gums.

Mashed Potatoes:
Potatoes actually do not stick on your teeth like other starchy foods.  They are packed with vitamins that are essential for good oral health.

Cranberries:
Cranberries prevent oral bacterial growth on the teeth.

Turkey:
Turkey aids in the remineralization of the enamel.

Greens:
Greens are loaded with vitamins and minerals which protect the gums from damage and promote healing.

Gentle Dentistry for Children

Did you know that tooth decay is the most common childhood disease in the world?  Besides brushing and flossing, children should begin seeing the dentist for preventative care by age two!  It is also important to avoid soft drinks and junk foods such as; cookies, candy and pastries, which contain high amounts of sugar.

At James A. Burden, D.D.S. & Associates, we believe that a positive experience is just as important for your little one as the actual cleaning itself!  Many times, one negative experience in the chair as a child can lead to a fearful adult that avoids the dental office altogether.

From the activity station in the lobby and "underwater themed" pediatric room, to our fun filled treasure chest at checkout, your little one will look forward to coming back every six months!

Call us today to schedule a Complimentary Consultation for your child to meet our amazing staff and check out all of the kid friendly aspects of our practice!  We can't wait to meet them!

Sensitvity Test

Tooth sensitivity occurs when the underlying layer of your tooth, the dentin, becomes exposed.  This can result from receding gum tissue (a symptom of Periodontal Disease), brushing your teeth too hard, cracked or chipped teeth, or a diet high in acidic foods such as citrus and pickles.  Using sensitivity toothpaste and avoiding highly acidic foods can improve many cases of sensitivity.  In more serious cases, a desensitizer can be applied in the office, and typically takes effect immediately.  To determine whether sensitivity is a problem for you, apply this simple test; close your teeth together and breathe in deeply through your mouth, forcing the air between your front teeth.  If you feel a tingle or sharp pain, call our office for a complimentary consultation on how to strengthen your teeth and decrease the sensitivity! 757-941-7079
